UNICEF engaged Olusesan Makinde between August 2015 and February 2016 to support its UNITAID funded HIV Point-of-Care testing project across the Eastern and Southern Africa Region. This project required the use of available data to determine the best locations for the placement of HIV POC testing devices for the highest impact.
White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood
White Ribbon Alliance Nigeria (WRAN) contracted Dr. Olusesan Makinde to carry out an assessment on respectful maternity care (RMC) in Kwara State, Nigeria in May 2014. This required a desktop review of academic documents, development of data collection tools, pre-testing the tools and applying the tools for data collection (quantitative and qualitative).
Focus group discussions were held with women who recently had a delivery in health facilities in Ilorin West Local Government Area and some others who lived around the health facilities and recently had a delivery but did not use the health facility to understand the reasons for their decisions. Health workers were also interviewed to understand their perceptions on barriers to RMC. Additionally, the Service Availability and Readiness Assessment tool of the WHO was used to assess the health facilities to determine if they met some basic standards. TY Danjuma Foundation
The TY Danjuma Foundation contracted Olusesan Makinde in May, 2015 to carry out a Mid-Term evaluation of the foundation's strategy. This required reviewing grantee proposals and reports, development of data collection tools, participatory study design, carrying out focused-group discussions and key informant interviews and report writing.
Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation
The Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation contracted Olusesan Makinde in November 2015 to provide Monitoring and Evaluation technical support to a project on the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV. This support required designing data quality assessment studies to identify problem spots across the data collection system and propose interventions aimed at improving the quality of routine data.
EnCompass LLC contracted Olusesan Makinde and another consultant between June and September 2015 to carry out the evaluation of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funded Saving Newborn Lives project in Nigeria. This required adapting data collection tools, collecting data and contributing to a report of the activity.
